3rd Person VR? Pt.1

Most VR games capitalize on the aspect of near unlimited visual movement with brilliant immersion. So far this has been used in First person Shooters that have you peaking corners, Horror games that put you in the shoes of the tortured, and puzzle games that play tricks on the human mind. Despite the diversity that has been shown in the VR gaming landscape we have yet to see a game that properly incorporates 3rd person aspects while utilising the full power of VR. Some games include moments of 3rd person like Out Of Ammo where you take on the roll of a strategist and build bunkers from above your character but no game is ever fully 3rd person.

Difficulties: Most games that use a 3rd person perspective like Resident Evil and the Elder Scrolls do so with a fixed camera. This is simply not possible in VR, even in cutscenes a character has to posses full control of where he/she is looking. Thus a character would have to control a separate entity while a camera floated near by, either anchored to the character or completely separate.

Ideas: One idea would be a multiplayer game. one player controlling a limited character or a character in a forbidding environment and one character playing a disembodied entity whos goal is to help the character through information or direct support. Additionally there could be a puzzle game in which a character was disconnected from their tool in which they interacted with the environment. Their POV on their character would shift but not be completely in their control.

Future of this idea: I will probably expand on this more at a a later date but for now these are my ideas to go off of.
