FTL Range finder mod

In space, no one can see your beautifully painted ship decorated with Engi heads because tactical engagements happen at distances up to thousands of kilometers away.

In the space warfare strategy game FTL there are generally 4 different strategies that you can run with, lasers, missiles, ion and beams, or ion and drones. each of these play styles add something new to the game however one thing that they don't take into account is the range at which your ships fight. To supplement this i believe it would be interesting if one were to make a mod for FTL that would change the effects of your weapons based on your range.

The way the range system would work is that the ship with the greater engine power would determine the range at which your ships would fight. This would apply more necessity to purchase a better engine, as is it is a massively under-utilised system. The ships could engage at three different ranges, all with their own effects on timing, weapon accuracy, and drone effectiveness. The battle could be at close range, medium range, and long range. visually this would be represented by a bar at the top right of your screen (next to the ship/store icon)

Weapons and how they would be affected

Beam weapons: At longer ranges beam weapons would charge/lock faster but deal less damage and vice versa at close range. Medium range would have no impact.

Missiles: missiles would be more accurate at long ranges and less accurate at close ranges but at close ranges they would be more likely to avoid defense drones.

Scrap cannons: Scrap cannons would be incredibly inaccurate at long ranges but charge faster and become more accuret at close ranges, at medium ranges they would be more inaccurate than a regular shot.

Lasers: The most basic of all weapons, at long range they are less accurate, at medium range that have a standard accuracy, and at close range they have a greater accuracy.

Ions: At long ranges ionic weapons become less powerful with their ionised timer decreasing by a percentage of their overall time, at medium range it is standard time and at close range they have a slightly higher time.

Boarding drones/Offensive drones: boarding drones take an exponentially longer amount of time based on if they are close to the enemy, at medium range or far. (For boarding drones) additional being at close range means they have a greater chance to dodge any defense drones.

Bombs: Bombs charging/locking time will improve the closer it gets to the enemy ship

Boarding: boarding takes longer to recharge if the enemy is at longer ranges

This new game mechanic would not only give new buffs and debuffs to old weapons but it would also allow for new combinations. Do you want to risk a slower launch drone time for a greater chance at dodging, put everything into missiles and hope that your enemy has terrible engine power? close the gap for massive damage with ions and lasers? hang back from the combat to charge your FTL drive? This mod would create new opportunities for players to expiriment.
